PRIMARY FUNCTION:
A fully competent applications engineer in all conventional aspects
of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignments.
Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation,
selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard
techniques, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to
problems encountered. Requires sufficient professional experience
to ensure competence as a fully trained worker.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The Applications Engineers provide customers with the technical
resources needed to develop and support applications, and execute
product management objectives consistent with the strategic marketing
plan.
• Application and Product Support: Ensure that customer applications
are adequately provided with engineering support. Recognize key
market and product needs and lead cross-functional efforts to meet
those needs.
• Support and guide sales staff: Provide sales training. Prepare
target account lists and make joint customer visits with sales engineers
as warranted. Utilize sales staff and distribution channels to gather
market intelligence. Provide product demand forecast as required.
• Product Offerings: Manage product strategies to maximize
market position and margin opportunities for target applications.
• New Product Development: Participate on teams with emphasis
on launch activities.
• Competitive Intelligence: Responsible for developing and
maintaining competitor files relative to current products, and for
maintaining competitive position analysis documents. Routinely conduct
research on primary competitors to understand their product offering
and marketing strategy. Identify and assess new potential competitors
in current markets for products.
As an individual researcher or worker, carries out complex or novel
assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques
and procedures.
• Performs work requiring a broad knowledge of engineering
and material precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge
of principles and practices of related specialties.
• Develops new or refined equipment, materials, processes,
products, and/or scientific methods.
• Represent the company in a professional manner at all times.
• Identify and report quality problems and action to prevent
any non conformities relating to product process and the quality
system.
• Responsible to follow departmental procedures and work instructions
as written and recommend improvements as necessary.
• Any other task/activity assigned by the supervisor within
the scope of the engineering system.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to
the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual
or complex problems and supervisory approval and proposed plans
for projects.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a working knowledge of production tools,
software, equipment and processes, and a high degree of mechanical
aptitude.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to travel within the United States
on short notice. Travel may also include making joint sales calls
with Outside Sales personnel and Reps. Travel may be required as
much as 15% of the time.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical
journals, reports, and documents. Ability to effectively present
information to management. Ability to define problems, collect data,
establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret
an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to work in and move around all
areas and equipment in the facility. Must be able to lift, push,
pull, stoop, bend, climb and stand as the duties and responsibilities
of the position dictate.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Adequate performance in this position requires a minimum of a 2
year technical degree and or 10 years of progressive work related
experience.
