Quad-Ring® Seal Kit Back to Engineering Bulletins

Being in the sealing industry for over 30 years, we get calls from all over the US and Canada asking for design help or assistance in identifying seals. Many times the source of these questions has to do with the rubber seal you find enclosed. Although Minnesota Rubber has been manufacturing the Quad Ring^® Seal for over 30 years, it is surprising to us how many people do not know about this unique product.

We hope to improve that situation as this is truly a high performance seal. The 4-Leaf Clover Cross Section of the Quad Ring^®, while different than an O-Ring, has 4 main advantages:

1. Two point sealing contact -- two sealing surfaces give a positive seal with less friction.

2. No flash or parting line on seal surface -- recessed mold parting line ensures zero leakage.

3. No spiral twisting -- quad cross-section resists twisting and extrusion.

4. Less squeeze/less friction -- twice the sealing surface means less squeeze for an effective seal. This results in less friction and longer seal life.

Two areas that customers constantly call with problems on when using O-Rings are excessive friction and defects at the O-Ring parting line. By design, an O-Ring parting line is right on the sealing surface. Quad Ring Seals solve both of these immediate problems and have other advantages as outlined above.

Quad Rings are available in all standard O-Ring sizes from 1/32" to 26", as well as custom seals for unique applications. Our stock of Quad Rings for immediate shipment consists mainly of their 366Y compound (a 70 durometer Buna-N) and 514AD compound (which is a 70 durometer fluoroelastomer). Many other compounds are available for special applications, such as for use in potable water or to military specifications, just call us with your needs.

In addition to the Quad Brand products, we also distribute the following items for Minnesota Rubber:

1. Quad^® Brand Ground Rubber Balls are also available. Molded only balls are available as a low cost alternative for non-critical applications.

2. Equi-Flex^TM Metal Rod Wiper/Scraper - a unique high performance scraper for the most demanding applications.

3. Kapseal TFE O-Ring Boots - a TFE "Slipper Seal" extremely effective in reducing break-away friction.

One last thing, as with all good products, there are "look-a-likes" in the market and Minnesota Quad Rings are no exception. Do not be fooled, these look-a-like products are inferior in both design and materials. Insist on Minnesota Rubber Quad Rings -- the seals made in America to the highest standards possible.
